This is one of the most breathtaking trekkings in Nepal. Manaslu Conservation Area, one of the most untouched regions of Nepal, was officially declared in 1998 with the purpose to preserve the natural resources, culture, legacy, animal life, and promote eco-tourism to develop the local life.
Manaslu is known as the “Mountain of the Spirit”. It is a serrated huge wall of snow and ice hanging in the sky. Situated in the centre-west part of Nepal, in the Gorkha District.
Manaslu Trek passes through Nupri Valley, where we find a very strong Hindu and Tibetan culture and tradition. As we ascend, the valley opens up to spectacular alpine meadows and beautiful Tibetan villages.
Manaslu Trek is one of the greatest treks that we can find in the trekking panorama in Nepal. It is a privileged region fairly untouched with a very dramatic and powerful scenery.
We enter in the Tamang etnic group region. They are known as the original horse traders of Nepal. The region is full of Tibetan Buddhist art and tradition. We find numerous Buddhist monasteries, stupas and manis (Buddhist mantras carved on stone), along the path.
This itinerary offers approximately 177Km of circuit style of trekking path surrounding Manaslu mountain. The highest point we reach is Larkya La Pass (5160m), and finishes in Annapurna Conservation Area.
This region is home to numerous animals like the snow lepard, red panda, linx, Asian black bear, grey wolf, Himalayan musk deer, blue sheep, Himalayan tahr, horseshoe bat, and aroun 110 bird species including golden eagle, koklass pheasants, and Tibetan snow cocks. Vegetation varies according to the region where we are at; Rododendron and Himalayan blue pine forests.
“Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out going to the mountains is going home; that wilderness is a necessity…”
John Muir (“John of the Mountains”. naturalist and preservationist. 1838 – 1914)

The landscape keeps changing as we gain altitude. The wide valley becomes more narrow and occasionally we find some steep paths surrounded by magic forests. We walk through some villages and terrace fields. Before arriving to Machha Khola we have a bit of a steep terrain.
After leaving Machha Khola, we find the village of Khola Bensi and the hot springs of Tatopani. The valley is now more steep until we cross a suspension bridge. The journey is a bit challenging and we find some trails a bit exposed. We go through a deep forest and walk along the powerful rapid river Buri Gandaki. After a while, the river is more calm. We cross again another suspension bridge to then ascend to Jagat village.
The path takes us through steep terrain and terrace fields. Once we arrive to Saguleri village, we obtain beautiful views of Sringi Himal (7177m). The path starts narrowing down through some valleys and big rock walls.
We follow the Deng river to pass through a rocky tunnel recently constructed. The influence of the tibetan culture appear the more we ascend. We cross paths with mani walls (walls with stones carved with mantras) and chortens (or stupas).
We cross Hinan and Sho rivers. During this journey we will have views of Naike peak, Manaslu North (7774m) and Manaslu peak!
We will walk along the right side of the river from where we will have views of peak 29 in front of us. Then we will follow the path to Samagaon (3500m). We get to Samdo, close to the Tibetan border.
Today we will have a rest and acclimatization day, surrounded by big mountains and forests, we will explore the area and relax.
We follow the Buri Gandaki river that will become a small long stream. Always surrounded by magestic mountains. After crossing the stream, Manaslu exhibits incredibly beautiful. We reach the last abandoned village of the valley, Sumdu. After, we will cross a stream comming from the Gya La Pass (the pass to Tibet side). The abandoned village known as Larkya Bazaar gives us some clues where we can guess this was a trading point between Tibet and Nepal. Our day ends in a shelter built specially for the trekkers at 4460m.
Today is a long adventurous journey. The path ascends towards Cho Chanda and slowly it becomes more steap towards Larkya La pass, where we will have to give all our power and energy. Once we reach the top of the pass, we have privileged views of Himlung Himal (7126m), Cheo Himal (6820m), Gyagi Kung, Kang Kuru (6981m) and Annapurna II (7126m). After enjoying the views and taking the most ouststanding photographs, we will start descending to Bimthang.
The path will be a gift to our muscles. Easy and nice. This journey will take us through rice fields. We will cross the Karcha La pass and after the trail descends through rodhodendron forests.
Our journey follows the Marshyangdi river. We pass through many villages before arriving to Tal. Today we are in the Annapurna Conservation Area.
We continue our descent to Syange along a narrow valley surrounded by spectacular waterfalls falling from big rocky walls. We can also spot bee hives in the rocks where the most delicious honey comes from. The locals climb to the impossible bee hive locations with ropes and handmade ladders to collect the precious honey. Some of these honey can be toxic and can provoque alucinations including stomackage and vomits.
From Syange we take a jeep to Besisahar and then from there we will get another transport to the capital of Nepal.
Last day to explore the city of Kathmandu or visit the surroundings (Bhaktapur, Nagarkot, Dhulikel and Namo Buddha...) and find special artisan crafts to take home as a memory of a Country that Inspired You.
